Repeat Prescriptions

Patients on long term medication can order repeat prescriptions in a number of ways:

 - pop it into the letter /prescription box at the surgery

 - by post to the practice with a return stamped addressed envelope

 - telephone request after 11am although this is reserved for when prescriptions are required urgently.

Please allow 4 working days for your prescription to be processed by the surgery. It will then be sent to the local pharmacy of your choice. Both the local chemist shops (Michies and Davidsons) collect prescriptions on your behalf and then all you have to do is collect your medication from their shop. If you would like more details, please ask at reception. They also offer a home delivery service for customers with transport difficulties; enquire at the shop for more information.

Torphins chemist shop also offers a weekly collection service from the surgery. Please ask the reception staff for more information

If you have enclosed a SAE, please allow 6 working days for it to be posted back to you. If you are going away on holiday, or it is a holiday weekend, please ensure that you have enough left to last you until you get back or until the surgery reopens.

This is a new pharmacy service, but some of you may remember registering to take part in this project some time ago.  We are now able to offer patients, who are on repeat medications that rarely change, the opportunity to pick up your repeat prescription items at Michies or Davidsons without having to request a repeat prescription from the surgery every 2 months.  
 
If you are suitable to take part in the project, we will issue you with special prescriptions which will cover treatment for 6 months at a time.  The Pharmacist will dispense your medicines at 56 day intervals and monitor your progress during the 6 month period.  If any problems arise, the Pharmacist can refer you back to us at any point during this time.
 
Patients who are unlikely to be suitable for the scheme are those taking specific drugs which require close monitoring, patients with complex medical history and multiple medications and those who have had recent changes to medication.  We are also new to using this scheme but hope to develop skills over time that may allow us to open up this service to other patients.

Medication reviews

Tens of thousands of repeat prescriptions are issued by the surgery each year and it is important that these are monitored and assessed regularly. This can help avoid drug interactions and avoidable side effects, unnecessary wastage and helps to ensure you're receiving the correct, up-to-date medicine for your condition. A number of drugs also equire to be monitored periodically with blood tests. Every patient receiving a repeat medication has their records checked annually by our GPs although adjustments are also often made  throughout the year.

Patients might therefore be asked to come in to see a GP to review your medication or be invited to see one of our nurses for a blood test and check-up. 

If you no longer require a medication that is on your repeat slip please inform reception or the doctor/nurse.
